Good Jobs, Green Jobs East - Building a Movement to Create Good, Green Jobs

How do we ensure that clean energy technologies are manufactured here in the United States? How do we prevent chemical disasters in the workplace while creating jobs? Does recycling create good jobs? At Good Jobs, Green Jobs East — April 3 and 4 in Philadelphia, PA at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown Hotel — we examined the unique challenges and opportunities to creating good, green jobs in the Eastern United States.

While in the past we have held one national conference, this year we are bringing the Good Jobs, Green Jobs Conference to four cities throughout the country in order to allow more individuals to participate in this important discussion of how we will build a green economy that creates good jobs, reduces global warming and preserves America's environmental and economic security.

Good Jobs, Green Jobs East in Philadelphia featured more than 40 workshops.

If would like to join with the dozens of organizations that are helping us put on these conferences, visit our page explaining how you can become a 2012 Good Jobs, Green Jobs Regional Conference Convener today.

A Look Back at Philadephia

The Good Jobs, Green Jobs East Conference in Philadelphia on April 3 and 4 was a huge success. People from throughout the East — and much of the rest of the country — gathered together to share their stories and hear the stories of others working right now to build a green economy with good jobs. Thank you to the sponsors, conveners, volunteers, and participants for making this a great event!

The first day of the Conference, we held two plenary sessions. The morning session featured Hillary Bright, the BlueGreen Alliance's Regional Program Manager for Pennsyvania, BlueGreen Alliance Foundation President David Foster, United Steelworkers International Secretary-Treasurer Stan Johnson, Sierra Club President Robin Mann, U.S. Sen. Chris Coons, Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz, Philadephia Mayor Michael A. Nutter, and a plenary panel on transportation investment driving good, green jobs.

Check out the video below.

The afternoon session featured White House Council on Environmental Quality Chair Nancy Sutley, BlueGreen Alliance Foundation President David Foster, United Steelworkers International Secretary-Treasurer Stan Johnson, Union of Concerned Scientist President Kevin Knobloch, Congressman Chaka Fattah, Sierra Club President Robin Mann, and a panel on building sustainable cities with experts from throughout the East.
